Grammar Collection - Present Simple or Continuous Card Sort and Sentence Write
Using the Present Simple and Present Continuous Tenses can be a little difficult for a lot of students. I have lost count of the amount of times I've heard a student use the simple, when they should have used the continuous (and I am sure you are the same).
The card sort and sentence writer is a great, controlled, way for your students to discover the difference.
First, have your students, in groups or pairs, look at the scrambled sentences on the cards and categorise them depending on the tense the final sentence should be in.
Then, give each student a sentence writing sheet and have them write out the final sentences using the words on the cards. You may want to set this second part as homework, 20 sentences can take a while to get through.
Don't forget to conduct feedback after each stage!
